Steve Anderson designed some of the most memorable front pages the Detroit Free Press has ever dropped on a doorstep.
Think of all the big stories the Free Press has covered in the last few decades: the 9/11 attacks, the Afghan and Iraq wars, the auto rescue, Detroit’s bankruptcy, and the championship runs by the Red Wings and Pistons. Mr. Anderson, during a 25-year career at the Free Press, played a central role in how those stories looked.
“He cared about every single word, every comma, every period that he placed on a 1A,” said Jason Karas, a designer and colleague. “Whether you know it or not, a little bit of Steve Anderson has been delivered to your front door.” RIP

These days I feel that I often rely on formulas to photograph. Don’t you hate that? You compose and it feels like you are taking someone elses’s image. I thought that I had stopped thinking and worrying about composition but maybe not. Or maybe when you stop thinking about composition is when you make a photograph for the right reasons. #andfuckthehastags
Rails from the former tramways that ran until 1956 are unearthed on Woodward avenue as part of the M1 Rail construction project. GM diesel buses replaced streetcars thus bringing to a close a chapter in this city’s transit history that lasted nearly 93 years. We are now building a 3.3-mile streetcar line along Woodward Avenue between Larned Street and West Grand Boulevard. #yesterdayistomorrow #Detroitlove #detroit #arewesmart #dfp #woodward #rail #m1rail #transit #socialtuesday @detroitfreepress
